Linux Guide and How To Series

I have decided to start a series of talks on Linux. These talks will be basically guides on how to start out using Linux. The series will consist of the following topics. These are subject to change at anytime:

  1. What is Linux?
  2. Which version of Linux is best for me?
  3. How do I install Linux?
  4. How do I update Linux and install new applications?
  5. What are the differences between Window Managers?
  6. OpenOffice for Linux
  7. But I want to play my Windows games. (talk on Wine)
  8. GAIM for Linux, so I can chat with my friends
  9. How can I get my E-Mail in Linux
  10. I want to edit pictures in Linux
  11. Now that I can edit pictures, I want to manage them
  12. What Music Players can I use?

Some of the topics might be combined. For example the first two topics will be covered in the first presentation given on 4 April 2007. Each will have a power point presentation and article associated with the talk. They will be available for download here after each presentation. If you have any questions or suggestions please e-mail them to thespis@gmail.com. I will answer them to best of my ability. In addition I will provide free Linux CDs at every talk. Hope to see everyone there.

non-UI stuff

after thespis gives his talks on 'front-end/user' apps.
i can give a talk or two on firewalls/traffic-shaping and apache/web.
most of it will be elementary stuff, but you can learn a lot from a 5th grader. (;
